Mrs. Hawk thinks Allison doesn’t have a good fan base for the show like the boys do. I might agree, but she absolutely rocked the Joplin song, and I don’t care too much for Joplin.

For such a young girl, she has real moxie. I have come to appreciate Janis Joplin more & more& that Allison just killed it.

I actually knew about Alison Iraheta long before this season of American Idol, because I watched her win the Spanish-language version of the show, on Telemundo. (She was 14 at the time.) Back then, there were all these videos she had taken of herself practicing at home at the ages of 12, 13 and 14. She had posted them on YouTube, and I stumbled across them after she was cruising to an unstoppable victory in the Telemundo idol show. Those practice videos were jaw-dropping. I thought first that she must be lip-synching, but no — she’d stop and mess up and start again sometimes. I actually sent links to those videos to some friends, saying, “Can you believe this 13-year-old girl? She’s the best singer I’ve ever heard!”

Now that she’s more famous, the American idol producers got all those videos removed, unfortunately.

I hardly ever watch TV, but I did watch some Idol episodes this year, just to catch her. I thought she might win, but alas, no — tweener girls dominate the voting, and they always vote for the “cute guys” exclusively.
