The standard religious talkers have made it very clear that this was not a tragedy. The political talkers have appropriated the incident to push fear about terrorism. They can’t actually engage with the point at a level deeper than a surface assessment of “scary Muslims hate gays” because they depend on a base of people who are totally down with hating gays.

Actually addressing that hating homosexuality results in people hurting gay people—whether justified by Leviticus, the sura about the people of Lut, or just plain revulsion—they have not done.
