Just how far would one have to stretch credulity to suggest an 18 year old black kid would reach inside a cop car to attack a cop for being told to move to the sidewalk? Seriously?

The closest I can come is to picture the cop hanging on to the kid (suggested by eyewitness accounts) while pointing his gun at him. I could see the kid trying to knock the gun away to, yanno, keep his head from being blown off.

I get the feeling that the cop didn’t like that Brown wasn’t respecting his authority and reached out of the vehicle to grab Brown in an attempt to show dominance. Put a scare in the black kid to show him that the white cop is the one in charge.
