To be historically nit picky, my understanding is that the Pyramids were built by skilled craftsmen, not slave labor. But your point about the U.S. is accurate.

That was my understanding as well. The workers were being paid, or had volunteered their labor. The slave labor concept has pretty much been abandoned by Egyptologists.
