That’s actually why I stuck so long with World of Warcraft (over 10 years!); I wasn’t forced into fighting other players, and when we did group up, it was a cooperative effort for dungeons/raids. I am passably skilled at first-person shooters, but I would die before I’d show up at a Halo or Call of Duty tournament. My anxiety would kill me.

I keep telling myself my anxiety/introversion isn’t that bad. I can go meet new people. I can go to job interviews and come off as charming. I can go into stores and chat with salespeople. I even sometimes play board/card games against people in person. (But still prefer cooperative games)

But I hate playing PvP video games. And going to comics/sci-fi/game conventions drives me up the wall. I end up doing a fast circuit of the hall, hit the vendor section, buy some books, sprint for the exits, and just refuse to speak to artists. I don’t know why the artists terrify me so much, unless I don’t want to feel guilty about not buying art. I’d love to go the GenCon or some of the big horror conventions, but I know I’d waste the entrance fee by leaving after 15 minutes. :/
