What’s infuriating also is that American pilots have been reporting this problem for awhile; they were able to compensate and prevent a disaster but Boeing didn’t appear to issue any worldwide alert about this defect nor display any urgency to repair the defect. It is possible that they have been working on a correction since before the first crash but it took awhile to develop a sound fix. That still doesn’t excuse their failure to provide such a warning.

Correction was slowed by government shutdown. Got no source for that. Could have been wild speculation.
