In my experience, many nominally educated conservatives display huge, all but incredible gaps in their general knowledge. I’ve mentioned the medical student who did not know that other countries have their own military forces, separate and distinct from those of the US . This came up during a discussion of her belief that the Moon landings were faked. She thought all “military” everywhere was part of the same organization and took orders from the same source, like a global corporation. Another example: A Lubbock school principal heard me mention that my daughter had gone to MIT and asked what that stood for. He then asked me in all seriousness if that was some kind of 2 year vo-tech school. I got pissed at him for disparaging my daughter’s school, but he managed to convince me that he was entirely serious. “This is Texas, why would we know about some little college in Massachusetts?” he asked.
