Once he gets to camp and a few weeks pass I imagine some players who have been on rosters prior to this year will come out

I think you’re almost certainly right about that. I can’t imagine much negative mainstream media coverage, which should make other gay players feel comfortable coming out in the future.

Then we can get back to a more important question for the league. What the hell do they do about the epidemic of brain damage that they’ve finally admitted (sort of) is part of their sport?

I love football. Some of the most painful memories of my childhood involve the Houston Oilers finding a way each season to fuck things up. Even worse, we had to live in the shadow of the Dallas Cowboys “America’s Team” bullshit.

And I’ve watched every second of every SB since 1973 (Dolphins!), and can rattle off the winners and losers from each. But the thought of 26 year olds with CTE (irreversible brain atrophy due to repeated head collisions) gives me some pause about the future of the sport. It’s gonna have to change somewhat, hopefully in a way that doesn’t reduce the “good” brutality of the game, which let’s be honest is a big part of football’s excitement, while minimizing the “bad” brutality.
