Because Trump is a submoronic cypher, the perfect Play-Doh President that the long-suffering archconservative GOPers can use to get what they want without dealing with complications they might have with a President Pence.

“Complications” such as intelligence, knowledge on what being President actually entails, self-awareness, or a soul (dark and twisted, though it may be).

Rumors are that Pence is just as big of fucking moron as Trump (see e.g. his comments about wanting the N. Koreans to see his resolve). He’s just slightly more self aware.
