Interesting. I just heard an interesting conversation on the sinica podcast with New Yorker reporter who is writing on “beauty” apps in China. Filters allow anyone to beautify their selfies, etc. I think the reporter is Jiayang Fan.

Yes. There are “beauty” apps, which allow the user to smooth out blemishes, enlarge their eyes, or even change the shape of their faces. Plus, they can add cute animal ears and whiskers, etc. My female students often use these apps when they post photos to their social media accounts.
