I know some companies here gave compensation to laid off employees (Aurthur Anderson comes to mind) with 6 moths of bennies. I also know my step dad was laid off after 20 years and they told him they wouldn’t fight if he filed for unemployment.
I worked for a company for 3 1/2 years, got fired/laid off and they fought it. I received 1 unemployment check. They fought it. The state then sent me a letter saying they wanted the money back that was sent to me. Ya, that’ll happen.
