Cain: Black People Will Vote for Me Because I'm Black

In espionage they call it blowback when the disinformation used to fool the enemy ends up fooling allies. Since 2008, the GOP claimed that people voted for Obama just because he’s black, just so they wouldn’t have to admit any of his strengths as a candidate or a man. I thought it was just spin, but turns out they actually believed it and ever since then they’ve been operating under the mistaken assumption that all they have to do is run one of “their blacks” (quoting Ann Coulter) and they’ll win the same way.

You can’t conclude from the facts available just yet that Republicans believe what Cain is saying about his race being a big plus in the upcoming general election.

Even before he said that, it’s growing increasingly clear that they don’t believe him about his manners with women, they don’t see where he has much in the way of experience or knowledge that would help him carry the load of being president if he did run and win, and they don’t see why, with all that going against him, they should make him their standard bearer.

Even if, magically, Cain split the black vote with Obama, there’s a lot of other voters. Voters that, presumably, would only vote for Cain if they saw a reason reason rather than a race reason to vote for him.

What reasons, other than that he’s a Republican? And that wouldn’t sway independents.
