Fucking idiots…what was that woman thinking? She’s opened the door to this kind of behavior.

I have a few gay friends like that heckler and I’ve got a good idea what she was thinking. They’re usually older people who’ve been activists on this issue for their entire adult lives, and they’re really, really goddamned sick of being treated like plantation house slaves by the Democratic party. Yes, the optics are kind of bad considering that gay rights have advanced under this administration more than any other, but I think they have a point, that it’s all come about out of a heel dragging, almost begrudging political calculus instead of any real sense of right and wrong.

Now there’s an argument to be made that the sort of slow and steady approach through the courts that Obama has taken is going to make gay rights almost impossible to repeal once they’re fully established, and that’s pretty much where I stand on the issue. On the other hand I’m not gay, and this isn’t my life being treated like a football, so at the same time I can see where someone like this lady has a right to be very, very angry and frustrated right now.
