re: #444 Targetpractice, Worst of Both Worlds

I kinda tend to see our actions in Afghanistan as a bout of temporary insanity, blinded by the blood in our eyes and filled with a great rage to hurt somebody like we’d been hurt.

Iraq…a crime of opportunity. One that we could have stopped, should have stopped, but consented to because we were still convinced of the “virtue” of the fight.

Most everything like this is out of my hands so I just shrug it off. I laughed when I watched Colin Powell give his speech to the UN about WMDs in Iraq. Then watched the run up to the invasion. Iraq had little to do with 9/11. The rest is history. Afghanistan has some to do with 9/11 but not that much. Most of it was centered in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and remains so. Water under the bridge though. I voted for Bush in 2004 only because I didn’t want to see a civil war in Iraq. Strange but true. But that’s how bent I was in the aftermath of 9/11. But looking back Bush was actually a rather moderate Republican compared to the current Republican state of mind. We’re still living in strange times.
