To admit, even tacitly, that the fact-checker caught you telling a lie would be to admit to your party’s voters that you lied to them.
But that’s the problem if you’re using, say, factcheck.org to prove your point, and earlier FC factchecked your ass, you’re implicitly agreeing that they were right that last time, even if you don’t mention it. I.e., FC said you lie, later you quote FC as authoritative, and thus you agree they proved you a liar.
Often simply remaining silent, damaging though that can sometimes be, is the only honest option.
Politically shrewd option could be to take a factchecker’s arguments (since they rely on public sources anyway) and use them without mentioning the factchecker by name.
