I’ve been chasing down a wasp. I came into the kitchen yesterday and saw that The Kid had one of the back doors wide open. He was standing there with his tennis racket, vowing to fight off any wasps or bees that dared to enter his domain.

I’m also baby-sitting his new pet, a caterpillar he named “J.J.”. He thinks if he keeps it long enough, it’ll turn into a butterfly.

I’m still trying to figure out if I’m gonna’ get him a duckling for Easter. They’re not sold around here for that purpose but, I know a few farmers who have them. We got ducklings and chicks for Easter when we were kids and raised them into fine fowls.

When I was a kid we raised Muscovy ducks. Cute ducklings that grew up into some of the strangest-looking birds, with the weirdest call ever heard in Ohio.
