Thanks KT,that’s pretty close to what I’m looking for. I’ll send him the holy books link from makeitstop too. I’ve really tried to be neutral on religion with my kids. I have told them both that I support their choices and will help them find answers when they want help. My daughter is agnostic after exploring alot of different things as a teen-everything from Wicca to Islam and alot of points in between. My son just asked me this morning about the separation of genders in a mosque and I had no answer for him. I guess I should learn a little.

The gender segregation in mosques serves two basic purposes:

1.) Before & after the prayer to provide the women with a private place where they can remove their headscarves, breastfeed, chat, etc.

2.) The women’s area is typically either behind or above the men’s area. The reasoning is that it would be uncomfortable for the women and distracting for the men if they were in mixed company or if the women were in front of the men (because the prostration requires bending over, posterior in the air ;)).
