Maybe it’s a generational thing, but it really seems like the smart/right thing to do is archive all the email or at least have the Archivist go through everything to make sure what is public and what is private.
You then might be left with the issue of an archivist who releases personal and private mail (IV Amendment again).
A person who runs for and wins an office does give up a lot of privacy voluntarily, but that would suggest taking all of it. “I’m sorry Sir, you are not secure in your private papers as President, you’re not even allowed to have them.”
