I agree (also) with the second part, but the reaction I meant was “they had to do something else”/”it’s basically murder”. Talking about why we have zoos is legit.

Zoos are actually a critical component in wildlife conservation (when they are run correctly).

I am not keen on the idea of placing a single animal in an enclosure without companionship or whatnot. Zoos that are set up more as open parks that allow animals to freely roam seem a bit more humane to me.

Like most things humans do, it isn’t all evil or all good. In the case of the Cincinnati Zoo, there certainly should be an enquiry into how a toddler was able to get into the enclosure in the first place. As far as the gorilla went, he probably viewed the child as nothing more than an interesting object or toy. (He didn’t directly attack the child, or he would have killed him instantly.)
