Educating those on welfare and giving them a leg-up in the job market, alongside tax breaks to businesses who hire them, is a worthwhile endeavor. I heard a friend suggest the other day that that’s what should be done with unemployment, namely after 6 months, if the person has not succeeded in finding new employment, switch from simply providing “insurance” to paying to retrain them for a new field.

At the same time, you can only cut so much elsewhere before you start goring somebody else’s ox.

I don’t know. I guess it’s silly to say that I don’t know what TO cut and just what NOT to cut, but that’s where I’m at right now lol Maybe why I’ m a Dem. They try to protect programs that are important to me.
