Definitely worth seeing. About an actual POW escape during WW2. Some fictional characters* or events added on, but accurate to history in a lot of ways.

* - For instance some of the movie characters are combinations of actual POWs from the camp.

There are a few books about on the actual “Great Escape”, and I know at least one has additional text covering the differences between history and the movie.

A lot of dramatic license especially with McQueen but as I said it’s fun and as you say it’s actually quite historical accurate with the events, just the characters take on attributes of real people combined. IF I recall, the real Tunnel King was a Canadian mining engineer. And the three guys who did get out were Norweigan and Dutch.
