well, i meant to compare the fixation of democratic voters in 1896 on “free silver” to the exclusion of more important progressive initiatives and discomfort of progressive politicians to the discomfort of regular republicans with the birther movement, which they feel is distracting them from more important aims of destroying unions and medicare
