No, you’re ignoring the actual intent of his essay, probably because you’re fighting with him right now. Again, he always talked about the megachurches and the prosperity gospels or the Socons, pointing out that the former are a scam like Scientology and the latter politically powerful, unlike Scientology, and culturally powerful, unlike Scientology. The anti-gay propaganda of the Scientologists is terrible, but it is minute in volume compared to that coming from the socons.

I don’t consider you a good judge of what is ‘weak’ or not, Ludwig. You really have lost a huge amount in my eyes by accusing me of turning my back on the Jewish people. You know how grave that insult is; you can’t expect me to still respect you after you said that.

Actually, I would hope you would. Respect comes not from thinking that a man is perfect; that’s not going to happen. It comes from recognition that whatever faults he may have, whatever wrong he may have done you, he has good points that are just too good to set aside.
