I did grad work in Arizona and spent a lot of time with native Americam musicians and performers. One of their biggest pet peeves is white people claiming Indian ancestry as some sort of badge of honor. It’s very offensive to them. As I recall they also slammed douchebag Ward Churchill for the same thing.
BTW, they also really hate hippies who adopt Indian spiritual rituals like sweat lodges. It really demeans their spiritual ancestry.
