re: #455 OhCrapIHaveACrushOnSarahPalin

Same here. People sitting tucked away in their gated communities, who will never be affected by teabagger/pitchfork/confederate rabblerousing, might think it funny and cute if a demagogue-lite gets the nomination. But they are not thinking critically. Or historcially.

Personally, I think it’d be cathartic, and actually a better thing than my earlier expectations.

My expectation was that the ugly base would win in 2016. Four more years of hatred of not only the left but the Establishment Republicans, all festering. And all happening against while the Democrats are running their replacement for Obama after 8 years of white house occupancy.

If Newt gets the nod, it’ll be ugly. But there’ll be less built up cess, there’ll be an incumbent who’s generally liked and respected by the public… bottom line it’ll be less ugly than it could be even with Newt involved.

The other good thing is that what I think of as the cleansing will happen four years sooner. Now, instead of four years from now, the various parts of the GOP will see their bad side standing up, see what they’ve chained their “honor” to. Some wont change. Some will. I expect to see either a quashing or a split, and that will be good for everyone.

I’m looking forward to it in the same way a patient “looks forward” to long, painful surgery and physical therapy — it’s bad, but not going through all that is worse.
