No

The “red herring” is all the gnashing and wailing that Mitt (and other ‘rich” people”) paid “less” in taxes than Joe Blue Collar

Both the ‘rich” person and Joe Blue Collar followed the existing laws. It just makes for a better sound bite saying “MITT PAID LESS THAN HIS SECRETARY”

But you are right in one aspect. It’s not about “absolute sums”, because if those numbers were released it would show the millions that Mitt (and others) pay so that is MORE taxes than Joe Blue Collar

You don’t get simple concepts. Sure, the rich guy pays a larger sum, but things are ass-backwards if he pays a lower rate…that’s the opposite of the progressive tax system that’s been around well over a century. This was one of Reagan’s best received arguments in 1980: “Something is wrong in a system where a millionaire pays lower rates than a bus driver.”

As far as “existing laws,” the point is that Romney wants to change those already skewed laws to benefit people like himself even further.
