My granddad fled Chicago during the Haymarket riots, started walking down the tracks, found himself the next morning in Gary, Indiana and settled down there.

Was he Robert Preston in The Music Man? I ask because Gary, Indiana was founded in 1906 and the Haymarket Riots were in 1886.
