There’s an ugly undertone that in order to really show that they disagree with what is being done, they would repent and renounce Islam, and convert to the right religion.

Or no religion, if it’s one of the militant atheists.

Because, of course, the problem is only the creed.

Not the poverty, wealth inequality, feudal politics, lack of basic education, weak governmental systems with no infrastructure for law enforcement, the hang-over effects of colonialism, the hang-over effects of US and Saudi Cold War fuckery, the hang-over effects of post-9/11 US fuckery.

It’s almost as if you spend five decades dumping money into hyper-conservative religious fanatics’ laps, they acquire enough power and influence to create a powerful international organization that hates personal freedoms.

But on the plus side, those nasty leftists never got a foothold in the Middle East of Central Asia.
