My district was an open race this year, as the incumbent Republican chose to retire rather than run for reelection. Hillary and Trump both visited Hampton Roads, but while Hillary visited Norfolk, Trump came down here and held a rally in Virginia Beach. She won the state, but he won my district in a walk. And the Democrat running here lost by double digits.

Now, I could sit here and feel sorry for myself, say that if only Hillary had come to Virginia Beach to campaign, if only the DNC had given the Democrat more support, we might have made this seat competitive this year and possibly turned it blue.

OR I could just acknowledge that no amount of politicking by the DNC would have turned my district blue, that Hillary’s presence would not have shifted opinions, and accept that I live in a deep red district that hasn’t gone blue in almost 20 years.

You had Glenn Nye for two years thanks to the Obama coattails.
