I have an odd question. Well, more than one question.

Remember those tablets we had when we were kids that were sticky black with a clear sheet of plastic over them on which we would write and then erase it all by lifting up and unsticking it from the backing? It looks like my mom has completely lost her voice and wants me to find her one of these. Does anyone know the name?

amazon.com calls ‘em “magic slates,” and you can get a pack of 12 with pirate, dinosaur, or Easter bunny background themes for under $4.

However, it might also be worth checking a dollar store or Kmart first, because I’ve seen (and used) updated versions of the “magic slates” that had a day-glo, sticky plastic background instead of the waxy black surface, and these seemed to last longer than the old-school tablets.
