What they did to Rommel was diabolical. I know he fought for the wrong team but still.

In some ways, his death isn’t surprising given how he was treated by those in charge. When he had a well-supplied and motivated Army, he was practically unbeatable, a true master of armored warfare. But he basically got abandoned in North Africa when Hitler got a hard-on for first invading Russia, and then Britain. And when the war become about defending Europe, he got overruled time and again when it came to deciding how the defensive set-up would be determined. It’s debatable to this day how involved he was in the 20 July plot, but it’s generally agreed he at least knew what was going on. That Hitler saw that as reason enough to force him to commit suicide is just disgusting.
