It was a neat walk since the walk from the middle school, you passed all sorts of commercial places. A bummer that my go to place for baseball cards had closed down before then. My high school walk was nice. It went through the creek at the lower end of the neighborhood. I really enjoyed that walk especially once I got an iPod.

I lived on the north side of Abilene for most of the the first 13 years, in the part that jutted up against the industrial part of town (next to my grandmother’s house, a half a block from ours, was a junk yard. Doing the street walk just now, not a whole lot has changed out there.

Thanks to google, I can show you what the house I lived in looks like now: google.com. My dad and grandfather built the living room with the bay window.

My brother, sister, and I were the only white kids on the block. There was talk here about ICE being recent. Prior to ICE they were called INS, Immigration and Naturalization Service. They would make periodic runs out in my neighborhood, especially to a house at the end of the block. I still remember names of the two kids who where close to my age that lived in that house. That house got so bad that Habitat for Humanity build them a new house.

You made me go all nostalgic for a place I have been happy to stay away from.
