The politics of abortion are all about women having the right to decide when they will, if ever, have children. It is about being in charge of your own body and your own life.

Precisely. It’s not merely about the right to control your own body— although that ought to be enough! — but about the right to choose when and where and how to become a mother, because you want to have children only when you can be the best mother possible.
The prochoice folks have missed the boat somewhat by not framing the debate in those terms, IMO.
