Do you think it only happened during the Southern Strategy? I thought so, but I’m reading about the Lily-White movement and now it seems that the process started at this time (end of 19th. - early 20th century). If you have other information, share.

Racism isn’t inherently party-unique—it’s more ideological, part of the conservative syndrome. The Dems and Repubs have done a gyre around it historically. Since TR the shift has been towards the Repubs, accelerating under FD(and E)R and in full turn by RFK/Nixon era.
