Big hug.

Thanks, SFZ.

I tried to append my last post up above, but pencil time ran out and I wanted to mention something further about the situation.

My wife’s grandmother has been suffering from creeping dementia over the last few years, and it had become somewhat of a burden for the family to care for her. My mother-in-law and her sister had assumed the bulk of caring for her, and they’ve been running themselves ragged looking ater their mother.

The silver lining in the cloud was that in her last couple of days she got to spend a lot of time with her children, and by their measure these were ‘good’ days - she mostly remembered who her children were and recognized her surroundings. They took her out to the harbor on Monday and enjoyed a nice lunch and the beautiful surroundings.

At the end of the day, she said goodnight to her kids and went to bed and passed away gently in her sleep. It gives the family a lot of solace that at the end, she was aware that she was surrounded with people who loved her.

My wife and I spoke a lot this week about her mixed emotions - sad that her grandmother (a big role model for my wife) was gone while being relieved that the family no longer had to witness their mother slipping away from them. It’s a difficult thing to reconcile.
