I spent the weekend finishing up Rabbi Nathan Slifkin’s book on Evolution, “The Challenge of Creation.” This book is specifically written for 1) Religious Jews who 2) are uncomfortable with the DISHONESTY of the ID’ers (which he exposes very well in this book).

He explains the historical origin of the Hebrew calendar and shows, from traditional classical sources, that the universe was known to be billions of years old and the evolution of life forms is not in contradiction to the Book of Genesis, which is presented as a metaphysical and spiritual account in which there are many layers. Unlike say, the Commandments of the Scriptures for which we have an oral tradition as to how they are to be performed.
