Except in Reagan’s case, first the military was used to fill the holes while new controllers learned their jobs, then those controllers went to jobs which actually had a paycheck.

Why would someone apply for a job when the government is shut down (and being shut down, they can’t process those applications nor pay them).

On the other hand, this plays right into the conservative and libertarian idea that we need to privatise the FAA.

The geniuses who think that the private sector can and will do ANYTHING better than government can. Except, there’s a lot of stuff the private sector WON’T do - AT ALL - because there’s no money in it, that still needs to be done.
