I had not thought about it that way. To be honest, its not spin. The word marriage is a word with strong connotations in my eyes and it still makes me uncomfortable to have it refer to a union of two men or two women. I think ultimately, I favor just calling the legal aspects of all unions “civil unions” and leaving the marriage portion of things to individual churches. Is that satisfactory?

Not really. My undergraduate degree was in Comparative Literature. From my perspective, again, language evolves.
