Ultimately the blame falls on McCain. He never should have nominated her for the VP slot. She’s an idiot and he couldn’t manage her. It was a disaster on so many levels.

He should have chosen Rudy, but remember he was trying to placate the Ingraham/Malkin contingent. They demanded a hard core pro-lifer, so he chose Palin.

And to thank him for choosing exactly the kind of person they wanted, they still slammed him up until the election and frequently since then as well.
