I never said otherwise. I think members of the military mostly serve honorably, often under conditions that could break any person’s moral compass. But atrocities did occur, will always occur during war. (And there’s still plain old death.) I trust the guys who served when they testify to what happened until proven otherwise, because they were there and I wasn’t.

The problem is that so many of the stories were proven wrong. There was systematic lying going on to undermine the war. Of all the cases John Kerry claimed to bring to light, only two could be substantiated well enough to be considered to have happened, and in only one case could fault be determined enough for charges to be contemplated. And that reality did not measure up to Kerry’s rhetoric at all. The United States Army did not “ravage the land in the manner of Genghis Khan” and Kerry should have known better than to say that it had.
