Our little HQ in Italy was targeted by two 500 kt warheads ready to fly from Hungary, not to mention growing up in Pgh.

I’ve never lived more than 20-25 miles I think from what would have been a target site if the balloon went up. Mainly major industrial targets since my father worked for ALCOA.

And in the early 80’s “Pittsburgh” magazine did a cover article (I think) that postulated the effect of a nuke being targeted on Pittsburgh. They had it “miss” downtown and air-bursted above the Cathedral of Learning. Which pretty much put me in the vaporized zone since I was going to school at Pitt at the time.
