Re-reading FCBBHO’s op-ed in the WaPost this morning, the last three paragraphs creep me out. In it, he talks about the need to shovel more money into the community colleges so that they can turn out workers for local economies.

That is important but, it somehow strikes me that he thinks such people are worker bees. What about people who attend community colleges as a way to prepare for universities or a way to cut the cost of a four-year degree by doing the first two years in a less-expensive setting?

I’m one of those people who went to community college as a way to cut the cost of a four-year degree. Now I’m staring down the barrel of my senior year, in hopes that there might possibly be a job market worth a damn in the summer or fall of 2010.
