OT ~

As a parent, I am always mindful of events that can become teaching moments for my children. Sometimes these events are thrust upon us and we must scramble to help youngsters understand. Such an event occurred on Easter Sunday when my mother-in-law passed away. Other times we must select events carefully so as to cover a range of issues. One such moment was our erudite, thoughtful and well-spoken President’s comment referring to his bowling skills. I told my children that being self-deprecating can be an admirable quality as long as one does not deprecate someone else in the process. We discussed the Special Olympics and the wonderful job they do for disabled people. To help drive the point home, I registered my entire family as a team to run/walk in the 2009 Lincoln Tunnel 5K Challenge on April 26th to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey. Not only is this for a terrific cause, but to be able to run through the Lincoln Tunnel instead of driving will be an added educational benefit. (On a personal level, it will also force me to get my fat keester moving.) I know that times are tough for many economically, but if you are able and willing to donate any amount, please click the link. Thank you.
