If he says he wasn’t born in America, he risks losing some non-birther voters. If he wants to win, he has to avoid saying anything that will shave off subgroups of voters. His path to the Presidency so far has been to tell every nutjob that he’s got people looking into their issues, whatever each group’s issues are. He’s not well-informed, but he is skilled at manipulating people, which led to a successful primary campaign based entirely on bullshitting dumbasses.
