There’s no limit to the duration of this impeachment trial. They can take months to pile on the evidence if that’s what the evidence demands. Since there’s only the rules in place in the Senate, they can hold hearings on this weekly, bringing in testimony from the very insurrectionists who explicitly stated the only reason they stormed the Capitol building was because Trump told them to do it.

I think that is going to be the point of it: it is not likely to end in a conviction but it will force the GOP to declare openly whose side they are on.
