I don’t recall anything in my Catholic upbringing about death being defeated as if there was some battle. I also like the angle that JC defeated death just like America defeated nature.

Apparently, defeating death was the plan all along. Had Judas not have turned in Christ, God’s plan for a resurrection would have been all fouled up. Some early texts made Judas a hero for going along. If you believe the Bible, Christ was the only man that ever walked the earth that knew for sure he was going to a better place, unlike the atheist that gives his life for a lessor goal than saving mankind from sin.

Sorry, I never got the whole sacrifice deal.
