Are you sure it isn’t YYYY-MM-DD? I think the only time you see what you noted is if they are using 12-May-01, otherwise, dates would be noted 2001/05/12.

I may be wrong, but that was my understanding.

Army/DoD makes it work around the world. Today is 07NOV13. It’s out of kilter every century. Get over it.
