re: #483 albusteve

nice touch with the mining aspect…it’s the major feature of CO history, and without the history it means so much less to visit

We were down on the Platte, showed the family some eddy’s where black sand had accumulated, explained on a river with still active gold finds, black sand is a good place to look for placer gold.

Once gold was found, the whole shape of Denver up through to the continental divide, changed almost overnight.

And then, when silver was found on the other side of the divide, everything changed again.

Those two major incidents shaped this whole place.
