A quibble. Americas was founded in the 1770’s and 1780’s, a time when religion held little sway over the intellectual community. It didn’t come roaring back as a social force until The Great Enlightenment, which gave us lots of Baptists and Revivals.

Praise the Lord and Little Baby Jesus.

On the other hand, some colonists that fled England supposedly because of religious persecution were actually peeved that the English authorities wouldn’t let them burn their neighbors at the stake because of witchcraft accusations.

The Great Awakening didn’t spring up out of nothing.
