I had a facebook/blogging friend post something the other day about how the Klan is really a Democrat Organization. I thought about pointing out that southern conservatives were Democrats when the Klan was formed because they had just gotten their asses kicked by a Republican president named Lincoln, and that they stayed Democrats for another hundred years because they held that much of a grudge against Lincoln. And then, in the 1960s, when liberal Democrats started passing things like the Voting Rights Act, and the Civil Rights Act, those southern conservatives moved to the Republican party. Guys like Strom Thurman, Jesse Helms… But I realized it wasn’t worth it.
